LOWESVILLE - William Brown Matthews, 75, of Lowesville, completed his life journey on July 8, 2008 at his home. He was born on January 21, 1933 in Charlotte . He was a member of Hill’s Chapel United Methodist Church . Brown retired in 1991 after 35 years of faithful service with Duke Power Company at the Cowan’s Ford Hydro Station.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William A. and Clara B. Matthews.

He is survived by his wife, Shelby Campbell Matthews; sons, David Matthews and wife Patricia of Lake Norman; Robert Matthews and wife Lori of Valdese; daughter, Debbie McMahon and husband Kevin of Stanley; brother, Robert Matthews and wife Ginger of Carrollton, GA; grandchildren, Kristin Cody, Andrew, Austin, Kody, and Lily Matthews; Melissa and Abby McMahon; Emily and Katie Martin; Tina, Mason and Bailey Crump; and great-grandchild, Hunter Cody.

Funeral services were held at 11 AM Saturday, July 12, 2008 at Hills Chapel United Methodist Church with Rev. Val Rosenquist and Rev. Hubert Clinard officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery. The family received friends at the church following the service.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Lincoln County, 107 Cedar St. , Lincolnton , NC 28092 , Hills Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery Fund, 988 S Hwy 16, Stanley , NC 28164 , or the charity of the donor’s choice.

The family would like to thank Hospice of Lincoln County for their loving care to Brown and all of his family.
