Brian Jackson hired as full time Minister of Music and Director of Volunteers
From Boger City UMC Newsletter
LINCOLNTON - The Church Council received a recommendation from the Staff-Parish and Finance Committees to hire Brian Jackson full time as Minister of Music and Director of Volunteers in Ministry at their meeting on October 28, 2007. The Council unanimously approved the recommendation.
At this time we do not know exactly when Brian will begin his full time employment with us, but will probably occur in late November or at least by the first of December. He will be spending 60 to 70 percent of his time with the Music Program. He will be starting the Handbell Choir back, and starting a Youth Choir among other things. In addition to the Music Program, Brian will be coordinating the Volunteers in Ministry Program which will be beginning in January of 2008. |

While thinking about writing for this column I remembered some statements I’ve heard from various people, some born-again, some not born-again. Here’s what I’ve heard: “I believe in God, but I got my own life too.” or “Yeah, I’m a Christian but I don’t really have time to read the bible or go to church” or “I’m young, I’ve got a life to live and not time for church.”. Lastly, “ I know I should be living for the Lord, but….” You fill in the blank.
Pondering those statements brings to mind Hebrews 2:3a that says, “how shall we escape if we neglect so great a salvation…” The word neglect in the Greek means “to be careless of: - make light of, neglect, be negligent, no regard”.
Let’s look at another scripture that talks about this neglect. “And sent forth his servants to call them that were bidden to the wedding: and they would not come… But they made light of it, and went their ways, one to his farm, another to his merchandise.” Matt 22:3 & 5 (emphasis added)
