Q: I wrote to you a while back about the U.S. auto industry making better cars. However, everything now looks real gloomy, jobs are being lost and Ford, GM and Chrysler all are having horrible years. I still feel the prices are too high for cars. I know the VIPs are making a good wage, compared with the salary I received in my many years of work, but they have to lower the prices, or I won't buy a new car anymore. I want to buy American-made cars if possible, but right now some foreign cars are cheaper. -- R.D., Wisconsin
