Rock Hill, SC-
This past weekend, the ESPN RISE High School Football Kickoff televised 16 teams from 7 states in eight high school football match-ups. Three of the teams that competed this past Saturday are from SC: South Pointe, Byrnes and Northwestern.

The weekend-long event preceded all high school, college and pro-football regular fall season football programming.

The double header on Saturday was played in Rock Hill SC, at Northwestern Stadium. The first game had the Byrnes Rebels (Duncan, SC) facing the Bucs of Hoover, Alabama. The Bucs were 14-1 last season and won the Alabama Class 6A state final. The second game (a "little" cross-town rivalry) had the Stallions of South Pointe (Rock Hill) playing the Trojans of Northwestern (Rock Hill).

Game scores:

Hoover 14, Byrnes 0
Northwestern 42, South Pointe 20

High School Sports : New Coach Meets with Students, Parents and Staff
Posted by admin on 2008/3/7 14:47:43 (1328 reads)

By Beth Saine

VALE, NC
– West Lincoln High School Principal, Matt Stover introduced the school’s new head football coach, Mark Latham to the interested parents, students and staff in attendance at 6:00 pm on Thursday evening at the school gymnasium. It did not take long to realize that Coach Latham brought with him a lot of “positive energy” to the school well before the first snap will ever take place.

Of course, whenever there is a “new kid on the block” so to speak, there are concerns among the staff, parents and the students. When asked about his plans, Coach Latham replied, “As head coach, I have been given the flexibility to hire the staff. Everyone that was here before me will certainly be given the opportunity to stay. No announcements will be made until the process has been completed and all nine staff members have been selected.”

Coach Latham may be new to the school but is not a newcomer to the area.

by Jason Saine

DENVER
– Adrian Forney had a career-high 25 points on Friday night in the Mustangs NC 2-A sectional final victory over Central Davidson, 75-48.

Forney, who was the hot hand all night, had seven 3-pointers. At point, he hit five straight 3-pointers.

The victory was big for the Mustangs and Forney helped lead the way by having 20 points before halftime. Forney almost single-handedly took Central Davidson fans out of the game. Forney made 9 of 15 field goal attempts, including 7 of 10 attempts at 3-pointers. His success was due in part by Central Davidson double and triple teaming Alex Newsom and Keith Rendleman.

East Lincoln was ahead at the half 49-21 which was the second highest scoring half for the Mustangs all season.

Aside from outscoring the Spartans, East Lincoln out rebounded Central Davidson 51-24 overall and 15-3 on offensive rebounds.
