DENVER, N.C. - Officials have recovered the body of a man who died when a boat exploded on Lake Norman at Westport Marina on Tuesday.

The body of 19-year-old Nathan Coppick was found late Wednesday evening.

Coppick was on a boat, the 80-foot Championship II, that had been chartered for a graduation party on Tuesday and had just returned to the docks at Westport Marina.

Officials said the explosion and fire was caused by a spark that ignited gas vapors while the boat was being refueled.

Four other people on the boat made it off safely.

Officials stated that both Coppick and the boat owner, Cliff Champion, followed proper procedures when refueling the boat.
