LINCOLNTON – In a press conference this afternoon, Sheriff Tim Daugherty spoke to local media about the seriousness of prank “hit lists” that have been circulating at three of the four area middle schools.
The first “hit list” was found and investigated at West Lincoln Middle School on April 30th, 2008.
Three other lists have surfaced since the original and each incident has been thoroughly investigated by detectives and officers with the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office.
The lists have been determined to be “copy cat” type lists and are meant to disrupt the regular school day according to Daugherty and investigators. Still, a great deal of manpower and expense has had to be allocated making sure that school children are safe and not in any danger of being harmed.
“At no time was there any threat to any students or faculty in Lincoln County,” Daugherty assured.
“The middle schools of Lincoln County are safe,” he said.
Daugherty is asking parents to talk with their children and impress upon them the seriousness of making such threats.
The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office is working with school officials to help educate students and prevent any future incidents.
