Fire / Police : Congressman McHenry Announces $77,330 Homeland Security Grant to North 321 Volunteer Fire Department in Lincoln County

U.S. Department of Homeland Security awards Assistance to Firefighter Grant funds to local department

WASHINGTON – Yesterday, Congressman Patrick McHenry (R-NC-10) announced $77,330 in a U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) grant to a local fire department in the Tenth Congressional District.

The grant will go to the North 321 Volunteer Fire Department in northern Lincoln County, and comes in the nineteenth round of this year’s Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program (AFG), which aims to help firefighters and first responders throughout the country. Local departments applied for the grants, and the program is administered by the Department’s Preparedness Directorate’s Office of Grants and Training.



North 321 is the third Lincoln County fire department to receive an AFG Grant in this year’s fiscal cycle. Both Union VFD and Boger City Fire Department have received AFG awards this year. McHenry recently visited Boger City to present the department with a check.

This is also the second consecutive year that North 321 VFD has received an AFG Grant. In August, Congressman McHenry visited the fire station and presented North 321 fire Chief Ronnie Williams with a check for last year’s AFG funds.

“The North 321 Volunteer Fire Department protects the Lincoln County Industrial Park and the vital business infrastructure that is represented there,” stated Congressman McHenry. “These funds will help to ensure that the department continues to provide excellent fire protection and a quick response time to the industrial park and to the surrounding communities that North 321 serves.”

Thus far, seventeen departments in the Tenth Congressional District have received AFG funding during this fiscal cycle for a total of $1,821,141 in funds disbursed. Grants will continue to be announced in rounds weekly through the remainder of the year
