VALE - With Senator Fred Smith and Judge Bob Orr, two of three Republican candidates for Governor of North Carolina, came to Lincoln County Sunday October 7th. They were met by over 150 Republicans from each of the 28 precincts of Lincoln County.
In what was a unique political event, the local G.O.P hosted a Panthers tailgate party and rally at the beautiful Woodmill Winery in western Lincoln County. What turned out to be a beautiful fall afternoon, the setting was right for good food, a football game, and a little local politicking.
Fatz Café catered the event.
Republican party Chairman, Susanne Sellers, welcomed party members and guests, and Congressman Patrick McHenry was the first politician to speak to the audience. Curbing pork-barrel spending, defending the borders, and preserving American freedom were rallying messages.
The two Republican gubernatorial candidates and two State Treasurer candidates Bill Daughtridge and Dale Folwell presented their qualifications and detailed their plans for a more effective, tax-conscientious state government.
Local attorney Jonathan Rhyne spoke on behalf of the three state judicial candidates and their importance in the 2008 elections. Republican Party aficionado, attorney Don Pendleton pleased the group with his comments on the new strength of the cross-county Republican coalition.
Guests enjoyed mingling with the state candidates, with prior and current county commissioners, U.S. Representative Patrick McHenry and N.C. Senator Jim Forrester.
Party Chairman Susanne Sellers said that the event was a good one for the party and was excited that so many young people were involved with the event. “We had great participation from all areas of the county. I am especially excited that these young people are here,” Sellers said. Sellers pointed out that five new voters who just turned eighteen registered to vote at the event.
Republicans were encouraged to get down to the hard work ahead in the upcoming 2008 election. All were reminded of the local party's rallying slogan: "United We Win!".
