NEWTON, NC - Congressman Patrick McHenry visited with patients, volunteers, and staff this week while touring the facilities at Palliative CareCenter & Hospice of Catawba Valley. The congressman met with PCHCV Executive Director Dave Clarke and discussed hospice experiences with patients and family members.

"It is an honor to have the opportunity to visit PCHCV today," said Congressman McHenry. "PCHCV's importance stretches beyond the services it offers to clients and their families. Through its outstanding performance and reputation, PCHCV helps promote charitable giving for other nonprofit agencies and enhances the attractiveness of the Catawba County area to individuals and businesses that are considering making Western North Carolina their home."

"We are pleased to have the opportunity to discuss our work with Congressman McHenry," said Clarke. "We offer a broad range of end-of-life care services, above and beyond the traditional range of hospice care."

McHenry visited the PCHCV Main Campus in Newton, site of the Carpenter Hospice Center and the two Hospice Houses. Fifteen patients are cared for daily at the Houses in addition to more than 250 patients receiving palliative care and routine home care services from PCHCV, in their homes, hospitals and nursing facilities throughout the Catawba Valley.

"PCHCV is one of a very few hospices in the United States that offers a variety of "extra" hospice services, such as our specialized programs for patients dealing with the last stages of heart disease and end-stage kidney failure," said Clarke.
