“No One was Ever Threatened” says Principal Todd Black
Lincolnton, NC— On Wednesday, October 11, a student was dismissed from the grounds of East Lincoln High School and taken into law enforcement custody for possessing a weapon. “The actions of community, school and law enforcement brought this to a swift and uneventful close,” said Superintendent Jim Watson.
Information from an adult in the East Lincoln community led school and law enforcement officials to conduct a search of the student’s vehicle, and it was in its glove compartment that a handgun was found. School administration says there was no indication that the student intended to bring the weapon into the school building, and that no student was ever threatened.
“While this news may feel distressing, members of the East Lincoln community can be proud that we live in a place where one of our own citizens cared enough to bring this to the school’s attention,” said Principal Todd Black, “and they should know that appropriate measures were quickly taken to ensure student safety. We believe that East Lincoln High School was and remains a place of safety. “
Discipline action regarding specific students cannot be released, but all board and state regulations will continue to be followed in regards to this matter.
