Vale - Lincoln County Sheriff's detectives have charged two juveniles in connection with a fire that was intentionally set and caused minor damage this morning (Monday) at West Lincoln High School. The fire was reported at 9:48 AM in the restroom of the new wing under construction at the school.
Workers were able to extinguish the fire before the North Brook and Howard's Creek Volunteer Fire Departments arrived on the scene but there was heavy smoke in the building.
Students were evacuated and Lincoln County EMS was placed on standby at the school.
Lincoln County Sheriff's detective Lester White said, "a paper towel dispenser with paper towels streaming into a waste basket were ignited to start the blaze."
White said, "the 14 year old and 15 year old suspects will be charged with the felony charge of burning a schoolhouse." He will sign a juvenile petition Tuesday or Wednesday and turn the case over to juvenile authorities. The juveniles were released to the custody of their parents. The Lincoln County Fire Marshal's office assisted with the investigation.
