Local News : Biotechnology conference to highlight Charlotte’s emerging role Monday

A discussion on the rapidly expanding biotechnology infrastructure in Charlotte, cutting-edge research projects, market insight and biotech investments will be highlighted at the fourth annual UNC Charlotte Biotechnology Conference.

The event will take place Monday Sept. 26, at UNC Charlotte in the Barnhardt Student Activity Center, third floor salons. The event is open to the public and begins with a networking breakfast at 7:30 a.m.





Hosted by the Office of Technology Transfer (OTT) and the Department of Biology at UNC Charlotte, the event will offer an interactive exchange among universities, government, economic development agencies, research organizations, biotechnology companies and venture capitalists.

Attendees will gain insight into biotechnology trends, products, services and startups. Some of the highlights of the conference include a discussion on genetically modified crops and organisms, technology on organ removal and transplantation, biological and chemical alerts, early detection systems for cancer, addressing biotech policy and biotech investments.

There also will be an academic, biotechnology competition between UNC Charlotte, Davidson College and Queens University.
