Quaddie the four legged duck was hatched on a farm in Kentucky on June 20, 2005. Her owner at the time thought she had just won the lottery when she found Quaddie that day. She promptly tried to post the duck for sale on auction sites to be sold to the highest bidders!
Quaddie's fate was uncertain until members of an online Pet Duck Group noticed Quaddie for sale. The members of the group pooled their money and decided to compete for Quaddie in the auction so they that could assure her a good home. Numerous emails were sent pleading with the owner to sell Quaddie to one of the rescuers. Finally she broke down and sold Quaddie for $70 to a local member of the group.
It was decided the duck would make its home at Carolina Waterfowl Rescue in Indian Trail, NC. A transport relay was set up to bring the duck from Kentucky to North Carolina.
After two days of traveling Quaddie and her sister arrived in Charlotte, NC. They have been evaluated by Dr. Lauren Powers at Carolina Veterinary Specialist. She has determined that Quaddie has an incomplete male fraternal twin attached to her body. Dr. Powers also determined the placement and weight of the second set of legs is pressuring the spine and they need to be removed.
We are currently looking to share her story but also to raise donations to assist with the cost of providing Quaddie with the vet care she needs. Anyone wanting more information can contact:
