GASTONIA, NC – NASCAR veteran Ken Schrader has added his name to the ever growing list of drivers that will be on hand for the 10th Annual Skyler Trull Memorial at Carolina Speedway March 12-13.
Scharder, who runs close to 100 dirt races a year will be behind he wheel of his Federated Auto Parts Open Wheel Modified. The Open Wheel Modifieds will be making the first appearance at the Skyler Trull Memorial with a 20 lap, $1,000 to win main event scheduled for Saturday night.
“Ken Schrader will race anything at anytime,” said Carolina Speedway’s Clint Elkins. “It’s a real honor to have him compete at Carolina. He has been on a recent hot streak with his modified so he will be one of the guys to beat.”
The Open Wheel Modified division is one of the fastest growing divisions in the Carolina’s. They feature high horsepower and hard tires which make them very difficult to driver, but also creates a lot side by side action.
The Skyler Trull Memorial schedule is as follows; Friday night will see qualifying and heat races for the NDRA GM Performance Late Models along with heats for the Open Wheel Modifieds. The Pure Stock Fours and the ‘wild and wooly’ Renegade’s will do battle in heat race and main event action. The Carolina Clash Super Late Models will have an open practice session. Pit gates will open at 4 pm with grandstand gates opening at 5 pm. Racing will begin at 8 pm.
On Saturday night the Carolina Clash Super Late Models will qualify, heat race and compete in the 40 lap Skyler Trull Memorial. The NDRA GM Performance LMs will run a 25 lap main event and the Open Wheel Modifieds will do battle in their own 20 lapper. Also on the card for Saturday night will be the inaugural run for the Thunder (crate) Sportsman with a $500 to win main event. Pit gates will open at 4 pm with grandstand gates opening at 4:30 pm. Racing will start at 7:00 pm. Two day pit and grandstand passes will be available.
