“I decided to go into education because of the influence of my high school chorus teacher and my piano teacher,” Benton said. “I always loved music and had played the piano since I was five years old. My chorus teacher, James Boyce, was so energetic in the classroom and obviously loved his job. I wanted to follow his example in sharing the inspiration of music with students.”
Benton, who grew up in Mint Hill, NC, received her Master of School Administration degree from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte in May 2001. She said she is honored to have been chosen as the new principal of Iron Station Elementary and is excited about the opportunity to serve in this capacity.
“Iron Station Elementary is a wonderful school,” Benton said. “The teachers are extraordinary and are completely dedicated to the success of their students. I look forward to sharing in continuing its tradition of excellence.”
