CONCORD, N.C. - The Performance Racing Network (PRN) succeeded in bringing thousands of fans closer to their favorite NASCAR drivers with the "PRN Up To SPEED" program at every 2009 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at Speedway Motorsports facilities.
Introduced at Las Vegas Motor Speedway in February, "PRN Up To SPEED" featured PRN's on-air personalities emceeing question-and-answer sessions with some of the sport's biggest personalities. These fan forums took place on the SPEED Stage leading up to SPEED's regularly scheduled weekend programming at 14 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series races this year.
"The 'PRN Up To SPEED' program was an unqualified success by every measuring stick available," said Doug Rice, president and general manager of PRN. "The fans enjoyed seeing their favorite drivers and the drivers fed off the positive energy of the fans. There is no other sport where the fans can show up with the expectation of meeting the stars, and 'PRN Up To SPEED' made that possible."
A total of 24 current drivers, including Jeff Gordon, Kyle Busch, Kurt Busch, Jimmie Johnson, Matt Kenseth, Juan Pablo Montoya and Joey Logano spent time answering fans' questions on race day mornings throughout the season. The program was a win-win situation for both fans and drivers as Gordon, both Busch brothers and Logano visited Victory Lane at tracks where they participated in "PRN Up To SPEED." Kurt Busch scored wins after two of his "PRN Up To SPEED" appearances at Atlanta Motor Speedway and Texas Motor Speedway.
NASCAR legends Bobby Allison, Donnie Allison, Junior Johnson, Marvin Panch and Richard Petty also graced the SPEED stage for "PRN Up To SPEED" during the year.
Each Speedway Motorsports track that hosts a NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race held "PRN Up To SPEED" sessions during their respective race weekend at a SPEED Stage location where access was free of charge for fans.
