CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Bojangles’ Famous Chicken ‘n Biscuits Restaurants are recognized for their fresh, made-from-scratch buttermilk biscuits. The biscuit maker position at each location is one of the most skilled and coveted positions in the restaurant.
Each year Bojangles’ salutes the art of biscuit making with the Master Biscuit Maker Challenge. The competition starts at the local level with over 500 crew members competing for the title of Master Biscuit Maker. One hundred fifty crew members then move to the area level; 25 move to the regional level and then six move to the Master Biscuit Maker finals. Biscuits are such a critical part of the Bojangles’ experience that store managers and regional supervisors are also required to be certified Master Biscuit Makers and will be competing in the Master Biscuit Maker Challenge.
The six best Bojangles’ biscuit makers from Bojangles’ restaurants across the company will compete in a pressure packed bake-off at the Bojangles’ Research & Development Test Kitchen in Charlotte, N.C. The Master Biscuit Maker Finals are scheduled to take place on Nov. 10 and 11. A cheering crowd from the Bojangles’ support center roots on the competitors as they try to make the perfect made-from-scratch biscuit and achieve fresh biscuit glory.
The six crew finalists who will compete this year are:
* Leah Robinson of the Highway 74 East location in Indian Trail, N.C. * Glenn Johnson of the Mallard Creek Road location in Charlotte, N.C. * Jose Sosa of West Dixie Drive location in Asheboro, N.C. * Stephen Hawkins of the Burlington Road location in Whitsett, N.C. * Justen Brice of Cleveland Avenue location in Kings Mountain, N.C. * Marcus Bethea of the Broad Street location in Sumter, S.C.
Master Biscuit Maker Challenge contestants are judged stringently on a variety of preparation steps, including technique, as well as consistency, color and texture of their finished biscuits. The biscuit maker position is one of the most crucial positions in our restaurants. During peak times, the biscuit maker may turn out up to 300 biscuits every 20 minutes.
The overall crew winner will receive the coveted Master Biscuit Maker Challenge trophy and $1,000. Other finalists will enjoy prizes including cash, gift cards and plaques.
“Our made-from-scratch buttermilk biscuits are one of the main reasons Bojangles’ has such a loyal customer base. We take biscuits seriously at Bojangles’,” said Randy Kibler, Bojangles’ Restaurants Inc. President and Chief Executive Officer. “Unlike our competitors where biscuits are an afterthought, Bojangles’ has elevated the biscuit to an art form. We make more than 500,000 biscuits every day at our 454 locations and Bojangles’ made-from-scratch biscuits are always served fresh.”
