Letter-to-the-Editor
By Fred Jarrett, Chairman
Lincoln County Republican Party

Have you taken the time to question and compare Lincolnton’s cost of services to our surrounding cities’ cost of services?

Most of the surrounding cities’ cost of services is much lower than Lincolnton’s.

Lincolnton’s property tax rate is 16% to 52% higher than surrounding cities. Lincolnton’s property tax rate is $0.56/$100 property value while Davidson is $0.365, Statesville is $0.38, Conover is $0.40, Cherryville is $0.44, Morganton is $0.46, Belmont is $0.475, and Newton is $0.48.

I hope this information makes you ask, WHY?

Water, sewer, and electricity rates typically follow the same distribution as the property tax rates. Water, sewer, and electricity rates have been steadily increasing over the years, WHY?

A way to answer the “WHY” questions is to make a change in Lincolnton City Government.

Lincolnton City Government has been dominated by only one prevailing philosophy for decades, with no “checks and balances.”

All that has occurred and been sustained is the same old “business as usual” approach.

Do you, the citizens of Lincolnton, want “business as usual” to continue?

A Lincolnton City Council election is underway where the “business as usual” philosophy is being formally challenged. The challengers want to answer the “WHY” questions for the citizens, apply their very strong business experiences and make a difference in Lincolnton City Government.

It is time for a change in the “business as usual” approach to city government that has gone on too long. The Lincoln County Republican Party has encouraged an end to “business as usual.”

The Lincoln County Republican Party endorses and supports the challenging candidates for Lincolnton City Council seats – John O. Gilleland, Jr, for mayor, Tim Shain for Ward I councilman, and Jerry (Jay) Thomas for Ward III councilman.

Please let your desire for a new voice in Lincolnton City Government be heard. Go to the polls and vote for change in Lincolnton City Government.
