AKRON, Ohio – Goodyear Racing and the National Dirt Racing Association have entered into a multi-year agreement keeping Goodyear as the exclusive tire provider for the sanctioning body’s Late Model Series.
The NDRA Late Model Series races on dirt tracks around North and South Carolina. The tracks range in size from 3/8-mile to half-mile ovals. Goodyear became the tire supplier when the organization began operations early this year. Goodyear tires are used on all four wheel positions on every car.
“We’re very excited about going into partnership with Goodyear,” said NDRA Series Director Larry Lee. “We felt that in order for us to grow, partnering up with Goodyear will be an important step.”
The NDRA rules mandate the use of engines limited in horsepower and supplied by specified builders. It is a formula that Goodyear is already heavily involved with at tracks around the country.
“We call them ‘crate late models,’ because the engines go out of a shipping crate and straight into the cars,” Lee said. “Crate late models have been racing on Goodyear tires for a few years. We’ve adopted the same tires. The cost is reasonable for the racers.”
The tires Goodyear produces for the NDRA have always been built at the company’s Technical Center Manufacturing in Akron, Ohio.
“We’re pleased to re-up with the NDRA,” said Scott Junod, Goodyear’s sales account manager for short track racing. “This is the continuation of a great partnership. As they expand, we’ll expand with them.”
