LINCOLNTON – Authorities were called to the Lincoln County Airport on Airport Road Sunday after an airport employee discovered a plane crashed at the end of a runway.
Lincoln County Sheriff’s Department Sgt. J. Cody responded to the airport around 9am and spoke with the employee, who identified the owner of the plane. The aircraft was discovered abandoned at the end of runway #23.
Sgt. Cody spoke with the plane’s owner, who said he did not know how the plane got to the end of the runway.
Boger City Fire Department responded to the scene in reference to a minor fuel spill coming from the left wing of the aircraft. There was about $50,000 worth of damage to the aircraft.
The case remains under investigation.
