LINCOLNTON – Lincoln County Sheriff’s Deputies spot an attempted bicycle thief at a shopping center on Buffalo Shoals Road last Thursday afternoon, after the victim told Deputies 18-year-old David Williams, of 1469 Bumgardner James Lane, attempted to steal a bicycle from her East Highway 150 residence.
Claudia Leach first talked to Deputies by telephone to report the initial incident, and then later called Deputies back to report Williams’ location. Williams tried to run from Lincoln County Sheriff’s Deputies during the incident around 3 p.m. while wearing a tee-shirt that read “if you see me running, try to keep up,” according to a news release from the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies apprehended Williams and took him into custody.
Deputy N. Dweese located the suspect in the area of the Boger City Fire Department; Deputy F. Runyon then spotted the suspect behind a residence on McAllister Road.
Williams was charged with two counts of resisting arrest and one count of attempted larceny of a bicycle. Lincoln County Magistrate D. Martin gave Williams a $2,000 secured bond, where he was then taken to the Harven A. Crouse Detention Center.
