ELKIN, NC – Hunter Peacock made the long drive from Gray, GA pay off Saturday night as the 19-year-old driver captured the win in round one of the inaugural running of the NDRA Finals at Friendship Speedway.
Peacock shared the front row with fast qualifier Jimmy Watson. As the green flag waved for the 40 lapper Watson jumped to the point over Peacock and Donald Bradsher.
Peacock began to pressure Watson around lap ten as Pilot Mountain, NC’s Noel Tucker began to make some noise. Near the mid-point of the event Peacock dove under Watson out of turn two and grabbed the point. Bradsher followed Peacock and slid Watson back to third. Tucker continued to charge through the field and with ten to go he joined the top five.
Up front it was all Peacock as he drove to the $2,500 victory. Bradsher took second with Tucker third, Timbo Mangum fourth and Winky McGee fifth.
Watson was the fastest of the 36 qualifers. Matt Long’s ninth place finish netted him the Hard Charger of the race.
