I’m really excited about this year’s Farm-City Week celebration on Thursday, October 22. The event, entitled “Moonlight at the Market”, will be held from 5:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. at the Lincolnton Farmers Market shelter on West Water Street. A main feature will be the Harvest Moon Grille from Grateful Growers Farm. This mobile food preparation unit is usually found at the Charlotte Farmers Market or in uptown Charlotte. They will be serving a delicious meal made from local products, including the pork for which they are famous.

The meal is $12 for adults and $6 for a smaller children’s portion. Tickets may be purchased in person at the Cooperative Extension office in the James W. Warren Citizens Center in Lincolnton. You may also send your check to the following address:

Joyce Dorsey
NC Cooperative Extension Service
115 West Main Street
Lincolnton, NC 28092

Checks should be made payable to “Lincoln Co. Ag. Ed. Acct.” Tickets are only available through advance purchase. The deadline is October 16. More details will be forthcoming on the specific menu.

The “Catawba Valley Music Revival” youth band will be performing at the event.

These bluegrass musicians have already charmed folks at both the Lincolnton and Denver famers markets. The combination of a great local foods meal and the music are going to make for a great atmosphere on an autumn evening.

Children who attend will have a chance to participate by painting their favorite fruits and vegetables on a canvas which will be displayed at the market in the future.

Farm-City Week is an event which was originated by Kiwanis International in the 1950’s. It is designed to bring rural and urban residents together to develop a greater understanding of how we are dependent on one another. Many counties in the U.S. celebrate Farm-City week through a variety of events.

In the case that severe weather prevents us from having this celebration in the Farmers Market shelter, it will be held in the auditorium of the James W. Warren Citizens Center Remember there is a dress code. Leave the coats and ties at home and wear your blue jeans!
