VALE. NC - Ann Chandonnet of Vale, NC, has signed a contract with Winoca Press for a non-fiction history book about the Civil War. The working title for the manuscript is “Write Quick”: War and a Woman’s Life in Letters, 1836-1867. The book is based on nearly 200 letters written by Ann’s ancestors and the extended kinship network in New England, where she grew up.
The book will contain 600 pages and 50 illustrations as well as two infantry rosters and three family trees. It will be published in Spring 2010.
Chandonnet was born in Lowell and grew up in Dracut, MA. She is a graduate of Lowell State College, minoring in history.
Co-author is Bobbi Pevear of Exeter, New Hampshire, who is descended from Eliza Bean Foster, the main “character” of the book.
Editor is Barbara Brannon, who previously edited books of Civil War letters for the University of South Carolina Press, and is an author in her own right.
Chandonnet is the author of a travel guide, Alaska’s Inside Passage, and a food history, Gold Rush Grub, plus collections of poetry.
