Gaston County Police Officers Shoot Killer; Man Incarcerated in Lincoln County for Driving While License was revoked

GASTON COUNTY
- The man that South Carolina law enforcement officials have identified as the “serial killer” that recently went on a killing spree in Gaffney is dead after a gun fight with Gaston County Police.

The man has been identified as Patrick Tracy Burris and is responsible for the deaths of five people in Gaffney, S.C.

The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office has released information that the man had lived on Chambers Lane in Vale, which is in Western Lincoln County.

His last incarceration in the Harven A. Crouse Detention Center was on June 12 for Driving While License Revoked.

Gaston County police were responding to a burglary complaint in Gastonia early on Monday. Authorities say a gun fight ensued and Burris was killed.

South Carolina Law Enforcement agents spent the day investigating in Gaston County and say that bullets from Burris’ gun matched those used in the Gaffney deaths.

“A killer is off the streets,” said SLED director Reggie Lloyd. Lloyd said that ballistics from the Gaston crime scene helped to confirm the previously unknown killer.

One officer who was involved in the shootout with Burris, J.K. Shaw, was shot in the leg and has been treated and released.
